Mid-Wheel Drive Power Wheelchairs
With the drive wheels under your center of gravity, a mid-wheel drive power chair turns almost in place. That makes it the easiest layout for tight hallways, bathrooms, kitchens and apartments. BlueBay Mobility offers complex rehab mid-wheel chairs fitted after an evaluation, plus everyday models you can buy online, across Orange County and Southern California.

Why choose mid-wheel drive?
Mid-wheel drive is a common choice for people who spend much of their day indoors. Here’s what to weigh.
Turns almost in place
The chair pivots around its center, so it needs the least space to turn. That’s ideal for small rooms and tight corners.
Intuitive steering
The chair turns around you, which many users find natural, especially first-time drivers.
Six-wheel stability
Casters in front and behind add stability. Suspension on many models smooths out thresholds and bumps.
Watch for high-centering
On steep ramps or big transitions, the chair can rest on its casters. Suspension helps, and we check your routes.
Power seating ready
Complex rehab mid-wheel bases support tilt, recline, seat elevation and power legrests.
Retail to complex rehab
From everyday chairs you can buy online to fully configured chairs for complex needs.

Mid-wheel drive power wheelchair FAQ
What is a mid-wheel drive power wheelchair?
It’s a power chair with its drive wheels in the middle, under the rider, and casters in front and behind. It turns around its own center, giving it the smallest turning space of any power chair layout.
Is mid-wheel drive good outdoors?
Yes, on sidewalks, paved paths and gentle ramps. On steep transitions or very rough ground, front-wheel or rear-wheel drive may be better. Suspension helps a mid-wheel chair handle bumps.
Which is better for a small home: mid-wheel or rear-wheel drive?
Usually mid-wheel drive. It turns in the least space, which makes hallways, bathrooms and kitchens easier to get around. Rear-wheel drive needs more room to turn.
Does Medicare cover mid-wheel drive power wheelchairs?
Medicare and many insurance plans may cover a power wheelchair when medical necessity is documented and coverage criteria are met. Complex rehab chairs usually also need a specialty seating evaluation. Retail chairs are usually bought privately.
