What to know
Why mid-wheel drive?
Mid-wheel drive is the most prescribed power configuration for CRT because it offers the best maneuverability in indoor environments. The chair pivots in place — ideal for tight hallways, bathroom access, and small rooms.
How does suspension affect ride quality?
Models like the Permobil M3 use independent caster suspension to absorb bumps at transitions and kerbs — reducing vibration and fatigue, especially important for users with pressure concerns.
Power positioning & seat elevation
Many mid-wheel chairs support power tilt, recline, seat elevation, and leg rest elevation. These features are often covered by insurance when clinically justified.
Insurance & Medicare
Complex power wheelchairs are covered by Medicare Part B when medical necessity is established through a face-to-face evaluation, an ATP evaluation, and supporting documentation.
