Why tilt-in-space?

Tilting the whole seat keeps the hip angle the same while shifting weight and supporting the head and trunk.

Tilt-in-space

The whole seat tilts back while the hip angle stays the same. It shifts pressure, supports the head and trunk, and helps with fatigue and tone.

Configured to the user

Seat width and depth, seat height, back, cushion, headrest and legrests are chosen for the person using the chair.

Pressure relief

For people who can’t shift their own weight, regular tilting is a key part of preventing pressure injuries. Your therapist sets the schedule.

Postural support

Tilt chairs take headrests, lateral supports and contoured cushions for people with neurological conditions.

Easy for caregivers

Balanced tilt mechanisms and light frames make pushing, tilting and loading into a car easier.

Kids to bariatric

Options run from pediatric tilt chairs to frames rated up to 500 lbs.

Tilt-in-space wheelchairs

The Orion II and Orion II 500 can be configured and ordered online. Other models are set up after a seating evaluation, with the cushion, back and supports matched to the user – ask and we’ll walk you through it.

How the evaluation works

For tilt-in-space chairs, the seating matters as much as the frame.

  1. Contact us

Tell us about the user, the caregiver, the home and how the chair will be used. We’ll explain the next steps.

  2. Seating assessment

A physical or occupational therapist assesses posture, skin risk and support needs, and we coordinate with them and the physician.

  3. Trial & configuration

Where available, the user tries a demo. Then we specify the frame, tilt range, cushion, back and supports.

  4. Order & documentation

We confirm the configuration and pricing, and provide an itemized receipt if you plan to seek reimbursement.

  5. Delivery & caregiver training

We fit the chair and show caregivers how to tilt, adjust and transport it safely.

Tilt-in-space wheelchair FAQ

What is a tilt-in-space wheelchair?

It’s a manual wheelchair whose seat and back tilt backward together while the hip angle stays the same. This shifts pressure off the buttocks and thighs and supports the head and trunk. A caregiver usually operates the tilt.

Who needs a tilt-in-space wheelchair?

People who can’t shift their own weight, need significant postural support, tire quickly when sitting upright, or are at risk of pressure injuries. That often includes people with neurological conditions, advanced MS or ALS, cerebral palsy, or after a stroke.

What’s the difference between a transport chair and a wheelchair?

A transport chair has small rear wheels and must be pushed by a caregiver. It’s lighter and folds smaller. A standard wheelchair has large rear wheels so the user can push themselves.

Do you bill Medicare or insurance?

Not at this time – purchases are paid directly. If you plan to seek reimbursement from your plan, we can provide an itemized receipt with the product details. Your plan decides what it covers.
